This was a weird week. It was a long week, but it didn’t feel like it was that long in the middle of it all. It wasn’t until Friday afternoon when I thought back on what had happened and was like, “That was this week? It felt forever ago!”

Some good things happened. Yesterday, I went to a writers group and workshopped the first 500 words of my novel. It was very well received, which was gratifying, and I also got some excellent feedback. Which leads me to the question: would anyone out in blogland be interested in reading excerpts of it? It’s a vampire novel. If there’s interest, I can post snippets once a week or so.

In health news, I had my first asthma attack in years on Friday. It was very hot. I’d taken my kids to the library when my chest got tight and I started coughing. I knew what was going on, but I soldiered on and stayed with the kids. I also didn’t have an inhaler. Luckily, it all turned out okay; someone lent me there inhaler, someone took my class, I cooled down, and made it through the end of the day. I got home to discover I had three inhalers in my desk, so… those are going in my teaching bag.

Reading-wise, I’m nearing the end of The Alienist, which I’m loving. I’m thinking of trying the TV show after, if I can find it streaming somewhere. And, even though I have a TBR pile growing, I still checked out the book Legendary from the library because it was finally in, and I’ve been dying to read it. So… oops?

Sunday Post: August 25, 2019

Oh. My. Goodness, this school year is kicking my behind. I’m so tired at night, I can only read about ten minutes before I don’t understand what I’m reading any more. I’m failing as a blogger because I can’t finish a darn book to review it. I don’t feel like I’m in a reading slump, because I’m eager to read and have books to read, I just can’t. I also am struggling to get to the gym. I start the week strong and go, and then just can’t make my body move. So, I’m failing as a blogger, failing as a gym rat, but succeeding as a teacher. I guess that’s what counts, right?

sigh

It will get easier, soon. The kids are settling in, I’m feeling more routine, it’ll get better. I just need to be patient. So, please, stick with me as I get through this rough patch; I’ll be posting again more regularly soon.

Two. Two stinking posts!

Tuesday: Top 5 Dystopians

Wednesday: WWW Wednesday

Tuesday: Top 5 Books I Don’t Talk Enough About

Wednesday: WWW Wednesday

And, with any luck, one day I’ll be able to post my review of Treacherous is the Night by Anna Lee Huber

The song Whole Wide World by Mindy Gledhill

Also, if you’re interested, I’ve got a Donor’s Choose project going on, I’m trying to raise money to but a low table for my students to work at. You can go here to see the project. Or, you can go to my Amazon School Wish List and see if there’s anything you’d like to donate there.

What are you reading this week? Any words of wisdom to get me out of my funk?

Okay, where the heck did the summer go? It seems like yesterday I was counting down the last days of school, and now I’m going back tomorrow. Keeping busy certainty made the summer go by quickly, and while I can’t complain, I do wish I had more time to kick back, relax, and read. However, I am looking forward to starting up again and meeting my new kiddos.

This week was rather laid back after my whirlwind trip. I went on the Whales, Wilderness, and Glamping trip through Spirit of the West Adventures and had an absolutely amazing time. I’ve always enjoyed kayaking, and I got plenty of it here. We went out every day, and the second day, we went out all day. I really though I wouldn’t be able to do an all day kayak, but the guides were really good about taking breaks, so it wasn’t hard. The best part is I was able to fulfill my lifelong dream of seeing an orca in the wild. I got to kayak in the water while they swam, and the next day, I saw them close up on a boat. It was magical.

The other wonderful part of the trip was hearing the humpbacks in the bay. I’d be lying in my tent at night and hear them breathing. It was so neat.

In other news, I’m starting school again next week. Well, I go back next week, and the kids come back the following week. I hope to keep on a normal posting schedule, but you never know what will happen. Life is unpredictable like that.

Sunday Post July 14

Once again, this week wasn’t very eventful. I did go to a book signing to see Brigid Kemmerer, which was a lot of fun. She and the other authors, Elizabeth Eulberg and Kasie West, were hilarious. I felt a little awkward, just because I was one of the oldest people there who didn’t personally know the authors, but I wanted to go so badly. There are never book signings around here and even though it was an hour away, it was totally worth it.

Yesterday, I met with my mom and dad, who live 300 miles away. We both drove to a point about halfway between our homes so I could see my dad for his 70th birthday (and also see him before his surgery in September). We had a lot of fun. I also gave them a copy of my book, which I wrote a few years ago and was always like, “I wonder why they haven’t read it?” Recently, I realized I never gave it to them to read and they probably thought I didn’t want them to read it. They were both really excited. I just hope they like it.

In other news, I don’t know if I’ll be posting at all in two weeks. I’m leaving for my vacation on Saturday and totally freaked out about it because I’m going to Canada and have never been to another country. I’m going all by myself and there are many steps in getting from the airport to my bed and breakfast that have been all stressed so I might just give myself a break and a chance to relax. As much as I can. Which is not very much.

Sunday Post July 7

Not much went on this week. I went to therapy and did some work. Got some bad news about my dad’s health and then got a scare on my own health yesterday. But, despite that, I’m generally feeling okay.

I read a great book yesterday called Spellbound by Allie Therin that I really loved. It was an ARC from NetGalley and the first in the series. I’m already dying to read the next one, and the first technically isn’t out yet! But the characters were great, the plot was fun, and it had some tropes that I really enjoy.

This week will be more of the same. I just hope the gloom we’ve been having goes away and the sun decides to come back. It’s summer. The sun should be out. It’s the rule.

Not a whole lot to report this week. Like I said on Wednesday, I’m in a therapy program (technically a partial hospitalization program for depression/anxiety) so my days are mostly sitting around talking and listening. Things got really intense Thursday, and I was exhausted and weepy all night. I haven’t felt much like writing. I did finish The Elite by Kiera Cass, but am struggling with On the Come Up. It’s very good, but it’s a little intense (and the chapters are long and I am tired).

And, just like that, the school year is OVER! I’m free! This week actually went by pretty quickly, all told. There were moments I was convinced I couldn’t make it, but by Wednesday things were looking good. I successfully had my first ice cream party for the kids, and it wasn’t the disaster I’d always imagined. Then, on Friday, I managed to keep them all engaged long enough to get through the half day, and I was done. I am so relieved because this year has been tough. It was a nice class and there weren’t a lot of behavior problems, but they were so talkative and so high energy, that it took a lot out of me. Now, I have a week off, then an educational conference, then my summer really gets going.

Yesterday, I got to see the stage musical of School of Rock, which was a lot of fun. The kids were amazingly talented. They were so good on their instruments, and one of the kids has only been playing for two years! They blew me away.

I didn’t get a whole lot of reading done this week. I was tired after school and one day, I actually forgot my book at school. I also started writing a new story, so that’s what I worked on after work instead of reading. But now, I have long summer days ahead to catch up.

I was in full on survival mode this week. It was the second to last week of school, I was still testing kids, doing grades, having meetings that ended up not happening at the last minute, and trying to keep the kids from going off the rails. Every night, I came home totally exhausted. I wasn’t able to blog hop at all. Practically, all I did was stared at the wall until it was time to go to bed, read a bit, then slept. I will be so glad when this school year is over. Five more days!

Sunday Post: May 26

This week was a bit of a mixed bag for me. My class took a field trip on Friday, which caused me to be anxious all the rest of the week leading up to it. Of course, the field trip went fine and everything turned out okay, but the days leading up were just full of all sorts of anxiety and worry. All for nothing. I need to learn to stop doing that.

Yesterday, I got to see Fiddler on the Roof. It was my first time seeing it live, and it was really, really well done. I actually started crying during the opening number, Tradition; I’m not sure why, but sometimes when plays start, I get a little overwhelmed. I was a mess at the end of the play; in my opinion, they raised the lights too quickly. That’s one good thing about movies: if you’re crying at the end, you’ve got another five or so minutes to get yourself under control. At a play, they just crash you back to reality and you have to face a theater full of people with a face full of tears. I mean, at least I do. I have no idea how I’m going to do Les Miserables and Miss Saigon next season; I can’t get through the cast recordings without becoming a mess.

Finally, after the play, I went to the bookstore where I bought, with deliberate intention, the Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare. So now I have three very pretty books and am very happy.
